1. Your Target in One Sentence
Your blog or website should have a goal: one, simple, clear and accessible.
Through your blog, you could sell a product or service about a field you are expert about.
Whatever your goal is, it should be summarized in one sentence.
This phrase is called “unique value proposition” and to be able to create it, you have to consider that the readers need to understand the topic of your website in a few seconds.
We can define the unique value proposition as your motto (it’s commonly known as site tagline). This is also what your audience will see when searching your blog with Google.
Here are some examples that particularly work, in my opinion:
PayPal: “Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account”
Simple, right? Even those unfamiliar with PayPal, automatically realize what features are on the site.
Spotify: “Music is for everyone!”
An effective and magnetic phrase, which remains etched and invites the user to enter the service. Besides, who does not like music?
Evernote: “Capture what’s on your mind”
Another great example of a catchy sentence.
What is Evernote?
A service that helps you organize your work and your life.
Jot down anything and keep it in a safe place to use it later at any time from anywhere. Evernote helps you to do this.
So, as you may have understood, the unique value proposition is the promise of what the users will find on your blog or site.
Write an original and honest sentence, because a promise must be kept if you want to create a successful blog and be credible on the web.
2. Choose the Right Domain Name
Once you have located the target, the next step is to choose the domain name (for example www.pvariel.com).
Creating a successful blog also passes from here, because the domain name is critical to the success of your web project.
There are two questions you should ask yourself before choosing your domain name:
- Should it be relevant to your business?
- Which extension must have?
If you’re aiming to personal branding – or the promotion of your services through your blog – your best bet is to use your full name.
It may happen that this has already been bought by your namesake, then you can try to choose a different extension from the classic ones (like .net, .org, .biz).
For all the other cases, there is not a general rule, it much depends on personal taste.
Here are some examples to understand the guidelines that you should consider to choose the domain name of your site or blog.
www.coca-cola.com
The domain name coincides with that of the brand, no misunderstanding.
www.howtoplayguitar.com
The domain name includes a long-tail keyword. In other words, you can easily understand what the website is about.
www.zappos.com
It is not clear what the company is about or the topic, but the name remains in the mind, no doubt.
What approach do you think is the best to create a successful blog?
The simplest and most important advice I can give you is:
Choose a domain name that is easy to write and, above all, to remember.

3. Focus on a Specific Topic
To create a blog that works it’s essential to not be dispersive: everything must revolve around a central topic.
The more specific the topic, the more incisive is the result.
For example, you can create a cooking blog, but it could be more effective if you just talk about desserts.
Or, you can create a technology blog, but you can increase the chances of being successful talking only about smartphones.
And so on. The aim here is to choose a niche inside a niche.
Those who enter into your blog expect certain answers to specific questions. And you exactly have to deliver them.
All this is important for two reasons:
- You create a niche of users
- Search engines love this approach
Now, think about the following.
If you have a restaurant in New York and try to emerge on the web, how many chances do you think you have to be in the top positions of Google?
Instead, if you have a restaurant in New York that offers a vegan menu, users searching for this type of food will probably find your restaurant at the top.
In a crowded marketplace like the web, you can win if you are able to find a niche.
Create a successful blog: Now You Can!
Considering those points, and after taking these essential steps, you will be ready to create a blog, and you can finally start writing your first article.
I hope these tips will help you reach success in the online world.
What do you think?
